finding Happiness – where has she gone?

Has anyone seen Happiness?

I promise you, she was just here a second ago.

Okay, that’s a lie. I haven’t seen her for a while.

It’s not my fault. We were perfectly happy but then one day, she decided to vanish from my life without a goodbye.

Her last words? Well, if I recall correctly – ‘I want to live on a farm.’ Yes, those were her last w–

Officer, can you please stop laughing.

If I could file a missing persons report for my emotions, I would. And it would probably flow along the lines of the above.

The case of finding Happiness.

Practically a cold case.

No real leads, no clues – just a disappearance with memories leading up to my Happiness’ absence.

Her last words – albeit humorous –  are indicative that my Happiness is living somewhere in nature. In the country, in the woods, finding refuge in the outskirts of a busy city life – my Happiness has resided in a place of calm and has no plans to return.

Where did it all go wrong, Happiness?

How could you leave to the unruly, dangerous outskirts of the woods? What could you possibly find there that you wouldn’t find here in the city?

Look around you. Look at the shops, look at the toys. Look at that new smartphone which allows you have 30GB more than your last one. Look, you can post everything on Snapchat and Instagram. It’s so much fun and you can see anything to your liking.

And look, Happiness! You can be busy doing so many different things. You can take on more responsibility and show you’re being the best you can be, you can win in life, you can snap it all, you can be busy all the time. You actually have a schedule to check!

So why are you still trying to escape?

Listen, Happiness. Here’s the bottom line. You can’t escape to the forest. You can’t just run away from it all and have a slower pace of life. You can’t just ask to be happy. You have to suck it up, like we all do.

Stop being so naive. I mean, what does it even mean to be you? Do you know that there are over 600,000,000 Google search results about you.

There are articles, courses, books tailored around Happiness, trying to understand how we can all be like you.

So you’re not the only person trying to make sense of it all.

What do you mean, you can’t be patient for the future? You want to be happy now? You want to be yourself now?

Well.

I don’t know.

Is it possible?

No. We’re not going to waste time on this.

Like I said before, put it on hold.

Hah! I mean really, how dare you try to leave it all behind.
